2012 Case Against Dr. Mahtani Was Motivated With Unethical Political Undertones, Claims Sc Judge
Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted businessman, philanthropist, and charity worker in Zambia. Over the course of thirty years, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has established numerous successful businesses. Some of his top companies are Mahtani Group of Companies, Finsbury Investments and Finance Bank Zambia. He has been engaged in several charity activities and philanthropic contributions for the less privileged sections of the society. Despite these, Dr. Rajan Mahtani is often targeted and attacked by conspirators with vested interests.
While conspiracies and attack on the business and reputation by competitors are common everywhere, it becomes out of the hand with corrupt and unethical practices. A similar incidence was revealed with the testimony by Supreme Court Justice Mumba Malila. According to the testimony, there is rampant corruption and unethical practices in Zambia. One of the major points in his testimony was related to the case of 2012 with Dr. Rajan Mahtani. In this case, the final decision was given against Dr. Rajan Mahtani despite the evidence and facts pointing otherwise. Justice Mumba Malila has called this case as politically motivated and against the interests of the public policies. Several attempts were made by Mumba Malila who was the attorney general during that time, to make the case null and void. However, no such actions were taken by the Tribunal during that time.
It is clear from the incidence that the decision making of the Tribunal was heavily influenced by external parties, with vested interests. These parties comprise of individuals, politicians, and businessmen who are extremely corrupt but have gained power over others with their corrupt practices. It is high time for the Zambian government to take stringent actions against these corrupt individuals and groups.
