Dr. Rajan Mahtani Established Steven Malama Award Given To Deserving Student

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is one of the most notable and successful businessman in Zambia. He is known not only for his business acumen and business practices, but also for his charitable and philanthropic activities. Over the course of three decades, Dr. Mahtani has extended his support to several fields and areas. One of these areas has been the education field. Dr. Rajan Mahtani and late Steven Malama were close aides. Late Steven Malama was a noted lawyer and philanthropist known for several achievements in his field. One of his most important achievements have been the merger of the Barrister’s Bar and the Legislator’s bar into a single bar. This merger has helped numerous law candidates and enthusiasts to achieve bar affiliations without much difficulties. To honour these numerous contributions, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani established the Steven Malama award. 

The Steven Malama award was established in the year 2012 and the first award was given in the year 2013. After the inaugural award, Dr. Rajan Mahtani decided that this award will be presented on an annual basis. The award is given every year to the top graduating student from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education. Furthermore, the top graduating student must also qualify for bar in their first attempt. The latest winner of the Steven Malama award for the year 2018-19 was Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba. He received this award from Dr. Rajan Mahtani himself. Apart from the plaque, Emmanuel also received a cash prize worth K15,000 which has been presented to all winning candidates since the initial award. Noted newspaper Daily News also published this news of Emmanuel Bwalya winning the award and thanking Dr. Mahtani for his significant contributions.
